WHY THE MESSY PARTS EXISTS

Success stories on LinkedIn look polished. Perfect, even. But the real journey to the top? It's messy.

Maryam Banikarim

launched The Messy Parts because she lived it. The career pivots no one talks about. The self-doubt that creeps in at 2 AM. The moments of failure that don't make the resume.

This isn't another highlight reel podcast.

It's a space for real talk about resilience, burnout, career transitions, and what it actually takes to succeed without the filter. Every Monday, listeners get career advice and life lessons from high-profile guests who've been in the seat and are willing to be vulnerable.

It's like eavesdropping

on the most honest professional conversations you've never heard.

WHY THE MESSY PARTS STAND OUT AMONG TOP CAREER AND BUSINESS PODCASTS

let us.png

There's no shortage of podcasts for professional development or entrepreneurship. So why is The Messy Parts consistently ranked among the best?

Maryam's 25+ years in the C-Suite means access to extraordinary leaders who are willing to go deep, not just surface-level interviews. These are people who have something real to say.

Real, High-Profile Guests with Real Stories

Unlike most business podcasts that focus on wins, The Messy Parts explores the setbacks, pivots, and career struggles that shaped those wins. The stuff that actually matters.

Honest Conversations About Failure, Not Just Success

Guests open up because Maryam's been in their shoes. Decades-long relationships built on credibility and mutual respect mean you get the truth, not the polished PR version.

Trusted Relationships and Unfiltered Truth

Every episode offers grounded takeaways you can apply to your own career, leadership journey, or business. Real advice from people who've lived it.

Actionable Career Advice, Not Fluff

Your Host:

Maryam!

C-Suite Executive. Emmy Winner. TED Speaker. The Host
Who's Been in Your Seat.

Maryam Banikarim isn't just another podcast host. She's spent 25+ years in C-Suite marketing and leadership roles at companies like Nextdoor (Head of Marketing/CMO), Hyatt (Global Chief Marketing Officer), Gannett (CMO), NBCUniversal (Senior Vice President), and Univision (Chief Marketing Officer). She's done the work. She's been in the room. She's lived the messy parts.

But her story goes deeper than her resume.

As an Iranian immigrant, Maryam learned early on that life is an obstacle course,a perspective shaped by resilience and curiosity. That experience informs everything she does, from the questions she asks to the space she creates for her guests to be vulnerable.

She's also a TED speaker ("Life's an Obstacle Course: Here's How to Navigate It"), Columbia Business School commencement speaker, and has been recognized by Fast Company ("Top 10 Disruptors"), the New York Post ("50 Most Powerful Women in NYC"), and Ad Age ("Women to Watch"). She holds degrees from Barnard College and a dual Master's in Business Administration and International Affairs from Columbia University.

WHAT LISTENERS ARE SAYING

Listener Review, Apple Podcasts

Finally, a business podcast that doesn't feel like a highlight reel. Maryam asks the questions I wish I could ask, and her guests actually answer them.

Listener Review

I've listened to a lot of career podcasts, but The Messy Parts is different. It's honest, raw, and exactly what I needed to hear during my own pivot.

Listener Feedback

Maryam has a gift for making her guests feel safe enough to share the truth. You can tell these aren't rehearsed answers; they're real.
